Parent Groups

Parent advisory council (PAC)

PAC is the Parent Advisory Council of the Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program at Clarendon School. Every parent is a member of PAC. PAC members can attend monthly PAC meetings (generally the second Thursday of the month), vote on budget issues, and vote to determine the PAC Executive Committee. The PAC Executive Committee is a group of elected parent volunteers who provide leadership to the Parent Advisory Council. There are three co-chairs (one is Japanese-speaking), two co-treasurers and three co-secretaries that manage communications.

PAC volunteers raise funds to support the enrichment subjects for JBBP students and coordinate volunteers for school events. For the most recent school year we raised approximately $200,000 to support our various enrichment programs, such as Japanese, PE, music, art, computer, library, and social/emotional learning (SEL). PAC's fundraising efforts also supplement teachers' classroom funds and field trips.

PAC General meetings are open to all parents and are on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm. Meeting agendas and notes are published to our parent portal, ParentSquare.

SChool Site Council (SSC)

Each SFUSD school has an elected School Site Council (SSC) to represent parents, students, community members, and school staff in the school governance process. By state law, the SSC oversees the site-based budgeting of categorical funds and the development and monitoring of the Balanced Scorecard/Single Plan for Student Achievement.

At Clarendon, each parent community is assigned three seats on the SSC (3 for JBBP, 3 for SC). In addition, one alternate member for each parent community is requested. Elections for parent representatives take place in the spring. The elected representatives will determine who serves as an alternate.

SSC also includes school staff, teachers, and the principal. Meetings are open to parents, and take place the second Tuesday of the month at 8 am on campus.
