School lunch

Meals are provided by the San Francisco School District:

Lunches are served by grade, in staggered 45 minute increments. For more information about the school menus, please check the San Francisco School District school website or see the information in the SFUSD Student and Family Handbook, page 26.

Transportation

Drop-Off

If you're dropping your child off in the morning, please do the following:

  1. Pull into the drop-off lane and wait your turn.

  2. After dropping off your child, move forward until you reach the crosswalk before exiting the drop-off lane.

Please do not block the bus lane or below the school. Sometimes buses are late or need the bus lane for a field trip, so we need to keep that area clear.

If esorting your kindergartner or 1st grader to the lower yard in the morning, enter through the lobby and head downstairs. Do not use the exterior door on the ground floor, or the gate leading to lower yard.

Pick-Up

We are working with the teachers to try to ensure that the children all get up to the yard as soon as possible after the bell rings. Never leave your car while parked waiting in the pick-up lane. Please write your child's first name and grade in large letters and put in your front window so that we can easily help you out and call your child for pick-up. Please make sure that you only wait for pick up on Clarendon Ave (do not park and wait on a neighborhood street). If it’s hard to find a spot, wait up the hill on Clarendon Ave where there is a passing lane. You are subject to a ticket if you park on the wrong road and block traffic.

Traffic, PARKING & Safety

Clarendon is a busy street. Please follow these basic safety rules:

  • Always use the crosswalk or bridge when crossing the street.

  • Remain out of the bus zones from 9:10 until 9:45 a.m.; and from 3:10 until 3:45 p.m.

  • Please park legally. Do not double park or block driveways. In addition, do not park in front of any red painted areas or outside of the striped zone across the street at the crosswalk - this makes it very dangerous and police will ticket you.

  • Do not use park in or block the driveway leading to our disabled parking unless you have a valid placard or disability license plate. We have several families who truly need these few spaces.

Be aware that there is street cleaning on our side of Clarendon Avenue on 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month (10AM - noon), and the Parking Officers are very diligent. You will be ticketed.

Policies & Expectations

Parent involvement is a hallmark of our program. Please see the School Parent/Guardian pledge.

It is the SFUSD goal to foster a safe, healthy, and rigorous academic environment. The rights and responsibilities explained in the Student and Family Handbook are here to help you better understand the scope of expectations we have for our students. Please note that the Handbook is available in multiple languages.

Attendance

If your child will be absent or tardy, please notify the school office by calling (415) 759-2796. Please call the school even if you have notified the teacher. Student absences negatively affect our funding regardless of the reasons. When children miss school our site loses $45 per child per day. Please do not schedule family trips during school time. If your child comes to school anytime after 9:25 a.m., please instruct them to stop by the office to sign in.

You can see the SFUSD attendance policy, including a list of valid excused absences in the Student & Family Handbook, page 40.

Special Day Program

At Clarendon JBBP we have a K–2nd grade Special Day Class and a 3rd–5th grade Special Day Class. Both classes are specifically designed to address the needs of children with moderate to severe autism. The teachers and staff receive training in the theories and practices of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). We utilize the ABA approach, in conjunction with many other practices, including Floortime, TEACCH, Sensory Integration, and Social Thinking. Both classrooms focus highly on social and communication skills, academic success, and self determination.

We use the general education curriculum materials, supplemented with Early Literacy Skills Builder, Handwriting Without Tears, and TouchMath to meet the varying needs and learning styles of our students. Students spend time with general education students at lunch, recess, buddy activities, and play groups, and are mainstreamed into grade level general education classes when appropriate.
